Rewatching ENT season 3 just got me thinking if we will see any Xindi characters in any upcoming books. I'm pretty sure they are part of the Federation so I'd like to see a Xindi star fleet officer.
As far as I know, only one Xindi character has appeared in the 24th century ST literature - Admiral Magodin, a Xindi-Reptilian, in the "Meet with Triumph and Disaster" short story in The Sky's the Limit.
IIRC, the insectoid variant lives only a short time. Probably not the most ideal Starfleet officer unless they found a way around that problem. --Sran
Or as bartenders. I always thought bartenders are some of the most interesting characters on Star Trek ships or stations. Starting with that Klingon cook from DS9, obviously.
^I could see that not ending well. The Animal Rights groups of the twenty fourth century start bitching because giant flies are being swatted all over the Alpha Quadrant and civil war ensues. --Sran
Quick correction-- Svaath Magodin is not a member of Starfleet, but the Federation Secretary of Science and Space Exploration. She fulfilled my threefold desire to depict: 1) a Xindi in the 24th century 2) a non-evil Reptilian (she probably still eats live mice, though) and 3) a female Xindi (seriously, there's only one canonical one).
Only one is seen, however Degra was mentioned to have a wife and daughter, and Commander Dolim was said to have a daughter. Which presumably means he has (or had) a wife, unless there's Reptilian mating habits differ from most other species in the Trekverse...
Right-- I spoke overhastily. Only one canonical on-screen one. Seriously, a whole season about the Xindi and only one woman! And the women we hear about are just storytelling crutches for the men. Ten people hanging out on the Xindi Council, and nine of them are dudes.
Speaking of Enterprise races in the 24th - and even 23rd - centuries...are there any Suliban in the Trek novels set in those time periods!?
^ There's mention of some Suliban settling on the planet Tiburon (in Titan's "The Red King") but I'm not aware of any other appearances.
