I guess when comparing alien makeup to, well, makeup. But... wow!

Honestly, I'm not expecting Star Trek to beat out Avatar for Best Visual Effects, so this is awesome.

Pretty good movie; I thought it was a marvelous piece of craft, if a bit too inscrutable for me to really love it.

Yep -- until now, Trek was always a bridesmaid, never a bride at the Oscars.

 

They got The Dude to introduce the Coen Bros' film of the year.

 

Checking Memory Alpha: This does, indeed, seem to be the first time Trek has won Oscar. Been nominated plenty of times. This is the first win.

Yeppie for Trek's win in Makeup.

Yet another film I need to see.

 

Wow, I figured it would have won some kind of technical award at some point.

 

Odd, in some ways; the makeup in Trek XI was great, but there weren't any radically different races or anything from past films.

 

Well, again, compared to the other noms, I guess Trek's win was a no-brainer.

 

Still, the first Star Trek to ever win an Oscar!
