Some ensemble shows purposely make their lead hard to warm to. Best example from my favorites is Seth Bullock on Deadwood. Never liked him, & I don't really think I was supposed to
I hate all the characters in Game of Thrones, but I love the show. Bunch of pitiless murderers. But that's the point, no? Also Homeland. @DalekJim ...Sawyer did nothing but crack jokes in seasons 4 and 5? Taking on the protective leader "Screw you and your reckless approach Jack" role was a huge new development from him.
That's like saying that mass murderers of the past were heroes because there was no Geneva Convention yet. Or that someone is a hero because he thinks he is.
I found Angel tolerable in its last year because of Spike and the whole Fred/Illyria thing, though Boreanaz/Angel was never other than a wooden bore.
Can't stand Kirk either. Don't mind Shatner as an actor though. Thought he did a pretty good job on Boston Legal. As for Bones, there are times when I want to throw something at my tv when Brennan is acting too over the top (for lack of a better way of putting it).
It's pretty much half-and-half in terms of when I sympathize with Larry David on Curb Your Enthusiasm and when I find him to be an obnoxious schmuck. Of course, that's what makes the show tick. But I don't think I would like any real-life person with Larry's persona if I had to deal with him/her on a regular basis.
The thing about Larry David in Curb Your Enthusiasm is that he's acting like a complete asshole, but you still get his point.
This was my feeling as well. I've never liked Boreanaz in anything, and hubby wanted me to watch Angel with him. With Spike there, I was able to watch the last season and not be too put off.
Did you guys know that Nathan Fillion had actually auditioned for Angel way back in the early days of Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Apparently he didn't even get far enough into the process to meet Whedon, but man, I'd love to have seen his take on the character.
I hate Raymond of Everyone Loves Raymond when I love everyone else on the show. I have been watching it and I really hate him.
Well he would have been excommunicated form the Jedi for marrying Padme. It's not like he could hand in his light sabre and call it a day. He's far too powerful to be allowed to run lose without any guiding principles. The Sith is likely to recuit him if he doesn't spontaneously erect his own sith chapter... Life imprisonment, death or some drug that that purges his metaclorians... Wait? That sounds familiar? Frankly that sort of Scandal would get Padme kicked out of office. Skywalker was a bad, bad man.
I'm a fan of True Blood, but I absolutely hate the character of Sookie Stackhouse. I don't know if it's Anna Paquin's "acting," but I cannot stand her. Every other character in the show I really love.
