Sure, if you like him. I wanted him gone the first second I saw him, but I'm sure there are plenty who like him. My favorites TOS: Kirk, Spock, McCoy (I'd put the whole cast, really.) DS9: Quark, Garak, Nog Voy: Janeway, Seven Ent: Trip, T'Pol (This series, too, would have the whole cast.) TOS and Enterprise were both series that I liked all the characters. I wish Enterprise had done more with the cast and the initial exploration of the crew and what they each uniquely brought to the ship. I didn't really want to see Klingons in the first year, much less the first episode. The less said about the temporal cold war the better, but overall I really liked the Enterprise cast about equally with the TOS cast.
Top 15 1. Picard 2. McCoy 3. Riker 4. The Doctor 5. Worf 6. Martok 7. Data 8. Ro 9. Q 10. Quark 11. NuKirk 12. Kirk 13. Dr. Crusher 14. Porthos 15. Kira Honorable mentions: Voyager's first episode, "Caretaker"'s Tom Paris. He wasn't the same after that episode but I guess no one would be after what happened; Dukat before the Pah-wraith puppeting, same reason; and I had high hopes for NuScotty, I like Simon Pegg films, but I thought he would at least get a little drunk.
Porthos is great! The Enterprise crew loves boasting about being the first humans to go where-ever, but Porthos was always under-appraised in that regard, plus, after all he's been through, NuScotty loses the hundread year old dog in a teleporting accident.
Do we know for sure that it was Porthos that nuScotty lost in his transporter experiment? Scotty said that it was Adm. Archer's prized Beagle, but Porthos really would have been about 100 during the timeframe of ST09. None of my beagles ever lived past 13 or so.
Screenwriter Roberto Orci, responding to a question about whether it was Porthos, and whether veterinary science had advanced enough for a dog to live over a hundred years. He answered "YES!", however, it should be noted that the individual who asked the question pleaded for the writer to "please say yes." I'm all for it being the same dog.
