    OOOoo, Salem's Lot!
    I forgot that one!

...and yes, Ringu is way, way better than the Americanized "The Ring".

Pretty much all of those Japanese horror movies are better than their American counterparts.

That reminds me that they're remaking Let the Right One In, which is a bad idea. I guess one upside is that it might make people seek out the original. I'm torn, because I believe Hammer Studios is handling the remake, and I really want them to come back in a big way, but I don't want this movie made.

I suppose there's always the chance it'll turn out well. I doubt it, though, since the setting is pretty important to the movie's tone.

Frankly, I'm sick of all these remakes, especially since almost none of them are any improvement over the original.

Can you hear me, Rob Zombie?

Yeah, that's a really good one. I watched it a couple of weeks ago. I hadn't seen it in years and had forgotten how good it was.

I'd say my short list would include Scream, Scream 2, 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later, Wolf, Hellboy (it is set durin' the Halloween season), and the original Friday the 13th.

Can't beat the extreme zoom in with shears poo inducing scene in III.

    My favorites are:

    Reanimator
Evil Dead (just 1 and 2. Army of Darkness is just a bad comedy)
    Day of the Dead (original)
    Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein
    Dellamorte, Dellamore
    Demons
    Phantasm
    Abominable Dr. Phibes

I saw the movie at the theater twice and both times people literally screamed and/or jumped out of their seats during that scene.

I much prefer to snuggle up on the couch with the classics---like the original "The Haunting" with Julie Harris. Or maybe a little Hitchcock, with "The Birds."

That's another one I watched earlier in the month. It was even better than I remembered.

I watched The Haunting based on people's recommendations here. What was so great about it? I like old movies but this one didn't do anything for me.

Halloween is at the top of my list. That one-note score still gives me chills.

Blair Witch Project messed me up good when I saw it in the theatre. On TV, not so much.

    The Shining was very creepy.

And for old, perhaps obscure movies, the original French version of Diabolique. (Stay far away from the remake starring Sharon Stone. It sucks.)

Any list which does not include The Creature From the Black Lagoon is, quite simply, incomplete. :p

The only horror movie that ever really, truly scared me was the original Alien. As best as I can remember, it's also the only movie I've ever left before the end.

I grew up watching monster flicks but Alien got to me. I knew that vampires, ghosts, and werewolves were all make-believe, but I believed that were aliens out there somewhere.

I love Halloween, The Exorcist, The Omen, Creepshow, all of Romero's "of the The (Living) Dead"... I could keep typing all night here.

Oh, and add me to the list of fans of Exorcist III. I just hope that one day we get to see the director's cut without the tacked on exorcism.
