I only got to base this actor from the horrendous ST: Nemesis. (Okay, the action sequences were entertaining, but....) Hardy, now, is a lot bigger than Shinzon. I recently saw Inception (good, but not as good as the hype made it out to be) and I thought Tom Hardy was pretty much a 'bad-ass.'* He also acted somewhat as the cool, comedy relief. I think Hardy was also in 'Layer Cake' with Daniel Craig; and he is up for 'Max' in the forthcoming 'Mad Max' film.** *This also goes for Joseph-Gordon Levitt, and for Leonardo DiCaprio... **Mods feel free to move this to the appropriate forum if this forum is not.
In Nemesis he was a great actor constrained by a crap role. Probably because they tried to take too much from Khan, without realising that what makes Khan is his over the top, B-movie charm.
Yeah, my problems with Shinzon have little to do with the actor. Inception was a great deal of fun...I haven't looked at reviews yet so can't comment on whether it's being over-hyped (only saw it last night).
I liked his performance. As a villain he was waaay less hammy than say John Simm's portrayal of the Master in Dr Who.
Tom Hardy got me to watch a Wuthering Heights mini. I figured if he could make something of Shinzon... Disclaimer: I hate the book with a passion. His Heathcliff, however, was inspired. I now own the DVD. He breathed life into that fetid abortion of a character.
Hardy was never the problem with Nemesis. The problem was his dialog was atrocious and he doesn't look anything like Stewart.
When I first saw him in Inception, I recognized his voice and his lips, but I couldn't figure out where I saw him before. When I realized it was Hardy, I was shocked. He was so skinny and young in Nemesis, and I guess he beefed up for Bronson. He looked completely different. He voice seems to have gotten gravelly. I wonder if he smokes. Oh, and I guess the hair makes a difference, too. Doug
Wow! That's an open-minded fella. In Inception, I had the feeling he (Hardy, not the character) is gay, but maybe I imagined it, or maybe Hardy played the character as gay. Doug
Maybe Cobb only subconsciously thinks he might be gay. Really I got a bit of a vibe off Shinzon as well, but hard to say whether someone like that would do it on purpose just to seem more creepy.
Many people have been remarking how well Hardy does in "Inception" and how he's "come a long way since Nemesis." Well, yeah! Nemesis came out eight years ago! I'd hope that he'd move on a lot from that role in that time period.
Yeah, Hardy was pretty fantastic in Inception. He was the fun, bouncy partner to the more stoic Arthur. He was also in RocknRoller, much to my surprise because I did not remember him in it. Which isn't saying much, because RnR was boring.
