This is the best TrekLit entry of the year. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and found that, for the most part, I just couldn't put it down.

    Concluded reading just now.

I picked up the book because it featured Mestral but caught captivated by the book's plot, and not just for Mestral's inclusion.

Immediately I warmed up to Wainwright and Allison, as well as other characters like Gejalik and the Aegis agents. Imho, it was the best TOS outing this year but then, I'm easy to please.

The return of the Tandarans was just another extremely pleasing example of tying TOS in with the rest of Trek continuity. Here you've got a standalone adventure that still part of the continuity tapestry. Fabulous! :bolian:

Just finished it and enjoyed it - not hugely though. I got rather less interested as it went on.

It was an impressive 'pull together' of lots of stuff from the TV shows and the author is to be congratulated for it, but the plot just lacked drive for me as it went on.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved Greg Cox's Eugenics Wars novels and this really worked well with them. This was definitely the best TOS book of the year for me.

The only thing that might have made it better is annotations in the back of the book like in Eugenics Wars. Since some scenes were based on actually historical events, having that context would have been nice - I didn't even know that Project Blue Book was a real government agency until about halfway through the book!

I'm not sure how I missed this when it came out, but I picked up a copy two days ago and so far, I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Not only do I enjoy these types of novels that mix 'fiction' with 'history' (think the Event Group series or the novels of Clive Cussler) but I've always enjoyed Dayton's work. Looking forward to really sinking my teeth into this one.

    Finally finished tonight.

A very satisfying "prequel" to Greg Cox's Gary Seven novels.

Just finished. I rated it outstanding. It kind of dragged at the beginning and the Enterprise bits were not as good as the other stories but man, it really picked up the last half. Couldn't put it down once I hit that point. I haven't read all the 2013 TOS books yet but so far this is my favorite of the year by a long shot. And it's my favorite cover of the year.

Ward is all about the slow start; I pretty universally find the first third of any of his books to be a slog, then the rest is awesome.

Very well written novel. I especially like the premise of Temporal Cold War soldiers who find out that they're no longer at war.

Hey did anyone notice that on pages 169 and 239 Spock and Kirk, respectively, refer to "Tandar Prime", but on page 206, Gejalik refers to "Tandaran Prime"?

No, none at all - if I post it here, people won't be drawn to the site!

And not sure about the "again" - we have had a load of people come over for the recent reviews!

    Just one thing:

I can understand Paul to a certain extent, and I can understand Dimesdan to a certain extent.

But what I can't understand at all is a mod openly endorsing a poster using this forum exclusively for drive-by advertisement posts. :cardie:
