From the Star Wars universe, what would you prefer having a complete mastery of - The Force
or Sith powers and please say why, as in what humorously, seriously and/or creatively witty things
would you most want to do and get up to, with your chosen mastery choice.

The sith use the Force just as the Jedi use the force, the only difference is in their application.

^And the obvious answer to which has more party tricks is.

The Force is not some party trick.

Oh I bet Anakin did more than his share of party tricks to impress the girls. Certainly managed to misuse a speeder that way.

Pretty much. The Sith use force lightning while the Jedi don't. If they have other powers than the Jedi beyond the lightning I can't think of any.

There are such things as powers exclusive to a given side, but it's the dark side of the Force, so if you have mastery of the Force, and the right knowledge or training, you can use the dark side powers. So the OP question seems to falsely imply mutual exclusivity.

... Which is to say, mind control is obviously the best Force power, and Timothy Zahn's Thrawn trilogy makes it pretty clear that it's a dark thing.

...anyway, they are the same basic powers except that opting for the dark side may have short term benefits but inevitably leads to bad stuff, so that I gotta wonder why anyone would be so self-destructive and stupid to go that route. Low self esteem?

From ANH we know mind trick is not dark. But whatever C'baoth was doing to Covell was probably a different story. And whatever Palpatine did to create the creatures in the crypts in COTJ was explicitly stated to be a use of the dark side of the Force.

I bet you have to be an unusually good guy, like Obi Wan, to use mind control responsibly. The notion that Anakin was using mind control on Padme selfishly is interesting and might have been a good plot element, but sadly its not actually part of the prequels except in the minds of fans who are still scrambling to make sense of it all.

Yeah, the fact that Obs used it in ANH doesn't mean it's entirely kosher.

"A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack."

The stormtroopers weren't attacking them; they were just questioning passers-by. Sure, they might well have attacked if not for the mind trick, but that doesn't mean the trick itself wasn't a form of attack.

Actually, it does mean that. It was used for defense. ROTJ calls it a "Jedi mind trick", as opposed to a "Force mind trick", for a reason. If it was considered to be "not kosher" on Obi-Wan's part you'd think that would have been mentioned somewhere. But the point is that it's not a dark side power even though we sometimes see darksiders using it (LOE). Besides, bumper sticker speak aside, the presumed "attack"/"defense" dichotomy is problematical; if we refuse to allow Jedi to fight to defend others, they become entirely ineffectual and useless.

Eh, I say he gets a pass on that one. The Stormtroopers definitely would have attacked if they'd known the truth. Intelligent and well reasoned pre-emptive strike is still defense.

You don't need to be attacked in order to defend, a defense is in part to avoid being attacked as you say. It would be like throwing a rock in order to cause a nosie in the opposite direction of where you are. It can be used as a form of misdirection or attack depending on how you use it.

What, by Jabba? I'd hardly consider him an expert on the subject, either.

When? And maybe Obs did say so, off-screen.

It's a gray area. In this one case, I think we can all agree that Obs was right to do it. But one rationalization often leads to another, and the road to the Dark Side is sometimes paved with good intentions.

Since we didn't have the "Sith" terminology yet, everything I ever saw prior to the prequels referred to them as "Dark Jedi", I'm not sure that really is suppose to connect it to a single side.
