    Director - Me.
    Screenwriter - John Byrne
Supes/Clark - unknown that recalls the art of Byrne in the man of steel GN
Lex - give the guy a rest. using the same villian over and over I feel has been a real drag on the Superman movies. If he is used, do not make him the main protagonist. Use the billionaire industrialist version of the character in a B plot.
    Lois - Ann Hathaway?

    Possible Villains:
Darkseid - Michael Clarke Duncan. though this may be a little too hollywood/typecasting
    Brainiac - Paul Bettany
Doomsday - CGI? like The Hulk?

I would do a trilogy with Darkseid as the overarcing villain.
First movie Darkseid is seen only as the motivator behind Brainiac finding Superman on earth. Not even Brainiac would be aware of the manipulation. Superman has to take on Brainiac.

Second movie Darkseid continues his manipulation by secretly letting Doomsday escape Cadmus. Superman fights to stop Doomsday but seems to die in the effort at the end. Epilogue scene of the some/all of the "reign of supermen" characters being seen in Metropolis.

Third movie, Darkseid invades. This movie starts with the "supermen" and maybe a few guest JLA members dealing with the invasion. Superman himself would not fully return till the midpoint of the movie. There would be small cut scenes of his "return" before this. I invision a scene where the invasion has reached it's darkest point and Darkseid is giving his monologue in the ruins of Metropolis. Closeup of Darkseid from the back from the shoulders up. A hand reaches into frame and taps him on the shoulder, "who!?!", as he turns. The flames of hell burning in his eyes. POW!!!!!! Darkseid goes sailing from the classic right hook. Camera switches to reveal Superman in all his glory, grim determination on his face. "No one does this to Metropolis. Not on my watch.". The battle is on!!!

    Brad Bird-Director

    Eddie Cahill-Superman/Clark Kent
    Sarah Michelle Gellar(Prinze)-Lois Lane
    David Duchovany-Lex Luthor
    Michael McKean-Perry White
Bradford Anderson-Jimmy Olson or Calum Worthy-Jimmy Olson
    Allison Mack-Cat Grant
    Alicia Witt-Lana Lang
    Julie Christie-Martha Kent
    David Morse-Jonathan Kent
    Malcom McDowell-Jor El
    Anthony Head-Zod

The cast is a little out there and mature...for me it works.

I don't know if he's tall enough, but George Eades who plays Nick Stokes on CSI would make a good Superman I think?

Maybe a few years ago, but he's forty-two now. I can't see Warner casting him as Superman at that age.

Just base it on the Byrne MOS version is all I ask.

Go for relative unknowns for the cast.

    Director, I dunno. Someone good.

    Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent
    Rachel McAdams as Lois Lane
    Liam Neeson* as Jor-El
    Hugo Weaving as Brainiac
    Hugh Laurie as Perry White

Written by Geoff Johns and John Byrne

No idea who could direct it, though.

*What? He seems to be Hollywood's go-to guy for the "mentor to the young hero" roles these days. :p

I thought Superman Returns was just fine. Including Lex. I accept that as true Supes canon, if such a thing is even possible.

All of which explains perfectly why Returns was shit.

That said though, I'd like to see the Lois & Clark cast (minus Lane Smith, sadly) again. They'd be good for one big screen adventure. Don't care who the director is.

No..it didn't suck. It just wasn't written with the ADD audiences that movies must cater to...

Returns's heart and intentions were in the right place, but instead of trying to make its own mark it spent too much time romancing the Donner movie(s), and simply giving us "Donner+," rather than telling its own story from the ground up. Given what we got, a clean reboot ala Batman Begins would've been preferable.

    Just my $.02

He'd be my pick as well. I'd choose Grant Morrison and Geoff Johns to write it and Scorsese to direct.

I know. He's replaced the gap that was left when Connery retired, IMHO. Must be a Celtic thing or something.

Although Anthony Hopkins is giving him a run for his money. THE MASK OF ZORRO, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE II, THE WOLFMAN, THOR, etc.

I realize there's an unhealthy obsession with reboots, I just don't agree that Superman needs one.

With very few exceptions, reboots only make things more complicated - darker, ambiguous, dirty, depressing. Superman, on the other hand, is above such things. The whole point of Superman is that he's perfect, or at least as close to perfect as anyone can be. He is the ultimate Boy Scout - he's innately good, absolutely incorruptible and honest. You know, like Optimus Prime. ;) That's why Superman is distinct - there's few true, absolute heroes left, so when we find one, we stick with it. And nothing should change that, since if it does, it kills the entire appeal and *point* of Superman's existence as a character.

True. Connery was originally meant to be in Zorro and also the first choice to voice Aslan in the Narnia series. They must both have clapped their hands and jumped for joy when he retired.

Of course, Hopkins is also a Celt (Welsh). But hey, casting directors, what about giving Gabriel Byrne or Timothy Dalton a look-in too?!
