    Hey,

Gold tickets went on sale this week. I'm sitting 7th row, first ST convention. Who else is going?

This is my first post, to the forum, I'm soo glad I found this place. I've visited other forums and they had no traffic.

I got into ST this year. So far I've seen, TOS, Animated Series, TNG, and 4 movies.

My fave ST series and ST movie (so far) is TOS and Voyage Home. And for character, I'm obv partial to a certain Vulcan :vulcan:

I plan to see all the movies/series by convention time.

Enough for one post, :rommie: I'll post some more if anyone responds... =)

Congrats on getting a seat in row 7. You'll have a better chance of getting good pictures.

A few suggestions (bearing in mind I've only attended Creation Vegas at the Hilton, there might be differences at the Rio):

-- Wear comfortable supportive shoes. You'll be walking and standing in line a lot.

-- Take advantage of the perks that come with the gold ticket. You paid a lot for it.

-- The Gold Ticket dinner venue has always been oversold in the past (non gold-ticket holders are permitted to buy in separately). I strongly suggest you and your companions get there early enough to get seats or you'll be eating standing up after being on your feet all day.

-- Be selective in choosing extra activities. You need to be able to take breaks and make time for meals. When you go to the forums, bring a small bag or backpack with bottled water and snacks (granola and cereal bars aren't too filling).

-- The actors don't bring pics for autographing: If you have access to a good quality photo printer, I recommend you pay a visit to trekcore.com where they have screencaps (some of them in HD) of every series and every movie.* They also have "behind the scene" pictures. Your can also go into the "worship" threads in the various Trek forums here where non-series pictures of the actors are available. Your gold ticket includes 13 autographs. If it works the way it has in the past, you will get a perforated card with the actors' names and you must bring that to the autographing sessions so the actors who are signing for gold ticketholders can get paid. (You can buy pictures in the dealers room, but they are not cheap).
*Avoid dark pictures. The actors use a silver marking pen for those and the ink doesn't adhere well.

I was there in 2012 and am planning on going in 2013 budget/work permitting. A buddy and I did platinum ($350 option, a step below gold/captain chair), and honestly thought it would have been better to do either a lower option (which, for us, just would have meant worse seats in the main hall) or step up more for the trek club parties at voodoo than anything else. For Thursday/Friday, we would do 3 or 4 hours of trek stuff total, and then did Vegas (Rio pool, hit the strip, etc), and were more all-hands-on-deck Saturday and Sunday when the bigger events were there. There were a few things we missed like Trek Kareoke that we wish we would have hit up, but Vegas was calling, and now we have a better idea on how we would want to schedule it next year.

Personally, I've rewatched many of the movies, but have been too busy to commit hours to rewatching the series. Personal favorite is DS9, and highly recommended right after TNG.

    You'll have a great time!

    Thanks for the reply =)

All good points, you gave me some stuff I didn't think about @ shoes + the dark photos.

Yeah, it'll be a lot of planning. Hopefully, they release the entire event schedule a couple months beforehand so I can schedule things in. I'm taking my family and we still want to have time to see other things in Vegas.

Yeah, gold may have been a bit of overkill, but it's mainly about good seats.

Yeah I seen a few videos about the club (I think) from the convention, didn't look like much except about 20 people on a dance floor and 80's music, lol.

And I'm totally with you about seeing Vegas, definitely scheduling it in.

The first day arriving we're going to do a helicopter tour at night of Vegas, and sometime during the trip another helicopter tour of the grand canyon/hoover dam. We want to see a lot of the shows and my fam are foodies, they're talking about a lot of celebrity chef restaurants that are there that they want to go to and I haven't even looked at what shows are going on since they'll be different by next summer.

My family never did the vacation thing when I was kid/younger so now (since I have a better job), at least once a year I can plan a big trip that we all can go on, for the last few years, since I turned 21, we always said, we'll do Vegas, we'll do Vegas, and we never got there.

Buying the gold ticket was the realization that it's really happening, no turning back. =)

    You're welcome for the info.

    FYI:
You won't have a chance to talk to the actors during the autograph and photo sessions because the line has to keep moving to get everybody in (also you won't get personalized autographs unless somebody with more clout than God insists on personalizing them (IIRC, Scott Bakula was one of them).

Creation organizers keep the stars on a short leash. Probably the only way you have a shot at chatting with any of the actors during the weekend is to attend "meet and greet" or "meal with the stars" events (both are kind of expensive) where the actors stop by your table for 5 minutes. Good luck getting a chance to get in a question.

One more thing: Vegas Trek is Creation's biggest event.

In the future, you might have a better time at one of the smaller Creation events where you would have a chance to chat with the actors because it's not so busy. Also, the Gold Ticket is a lot less expensive (there no gold dinner but there is a party and the actors visit the tables so you do get a chance tot talk to them).

One other thing to keep in mind at the Rio, when you're in the casino/restaurant area, security is fairly strict about not wearing anything which conceals your face. At least they were this year. This includes, for instance green make-up for Orion Women. I had a couple of friends run out of a bar this year because of the green make-up and watched while others in heavier make-up/prosthetics were told to move along. If you go in costume, go Starfleet. More comfortable anyway.

    Hew-mon bigotry! :klingon:

How ironic that Vegas of all places would ban someone dressed as a Ferengi. Too good at dabo?
