I have been on a kick again recently of watching the Keanu Reeves-Gene Hackman movie "The Replacements" on TV and then online. Mostly online because I would rather watch the unedited version. So I thought that I would post a poll to see how many of TBS'ers out there liked it. ***sorry I must have double clicked the poll button so alas no poll***
Sorry, I've never seen it. I was hoping this thread was about the band, one of the all-time greatest in my book. --Justin
Then it a good time for you to watch. Excellent movie IMO, not just about football but about people coming together and becoming a team ...overlooking their obvious differences.
Then perhaps Alidar, maybe renaming the post to include (the movie)... But what is it that made it so-so for you?...lol
Not to hijack the thread, but, I thought so too! The Replacements were the best band ever. I used to live in Minneapolis, I worked at a coffee shop that Paul Westerberg regularly came to. It was kinda awesome. Ok. On with the thread...
It had a fairly cliche plot, it didn't handle it in an innovative way, and Keanu Reeves isn't a good actor.
It was a fun film, with some hilarious moments. I always get a laugh when the stripper cheerleaders distract the opposing team. Is it Oscar material? Will it win Sundance? No.. but it is a fun couple hours.
I enjoyed it. But I enjoy pretty much any movie that focuses on interesting and quirky characters. I enjoyed Major League for much the same reason, and I absolutely hate spectator sports. (Seriously, where the hell is the fun in watching someone else play a game? Go out there and play it yourself. It's like watching someone play a video game.)
Yeah, this is one of the sports movies I can watch over and over again. It's not as heavy as some movies nor as silly as others. And the cheerleader girl is/was hot, so that helps.
Loved this movie as well as Necessary Roughness. They are great ways to pass a rainy Saturday/Sunday afternoon.
That's my take on it, too. I'd never be interested enough to pick up the DVD or anything, but it's one of those fun sorts of movies that you've seen parts of every now and then, and won't turn off if it pops up. I really like Roy from The Office as the deaf guy, too.
Funny movie! This came out at the same time as the Ben Stiller comedy The Heartbreak Kid. Turns out the Kid stunk, but The Replacements was great. An always entertaining hour and a half. Never heard of the band though....
Not totally against you,...Just so many on here have their own opinions on certain actors or actresses is what I was getting at. And that is what it is all about isn't it? Everyone has their own opinion and thank god it remains that way..
