Just a thought, that occurred to me the other day is that Galaxy Quest is really the 10th movie thereby – changing the the whole and odd and even numbered film so the good news is If there is another Trek movie is should be good

the even-odd curse was always nonsense. TSFS was well-regarded and did well at the box office. Generations, while receiving mixed reviews, did well at the box office. And Nemesis was a critical and box office flop.

Galaxy Quest is not a Trek movie. TMP and TSFS are good movies, even if they don't appeal to everyone. This nonsense started with TFF and Generations.

No, it was definitely pre-"Generations." Hell, even before TUC came out, fans were talking, mostly jokingly, about the odd-even thing. Fans would joke that we knew TUC was going to be good when it came out because it was an even numbered film. It probably did become a thing after TFF, but long before "Generations."

^I agree. This debate is old and tired.

Agreed. Most of the even numbered films sucked, too.

I've got a theory that TMP at least suffers its "the slow motion picture" reputation because of the 'Special Longer Version' released on VHS in the 1980s. In my opinion the pacing of the theatrical cut is great -- it does build up relatively slowly, but it isn't nearly as excessive as its often made out to be, it's just taking time to tell its story -- but the SLV destroys the pacing, making it feel more like a slow dirge.

    Ridiculous.

But is there a spoon? That's the question.

it was indeed pre-"Generations." Walter Koenig made a joking reference to it in a comic book, saying that they'd have to skip Star Trek VII and go straight on to VIII because of it.

The "curse" was basically a joke that came to be taken too seriously.

In the introduction to "Modala Imperative" I believe.

That was 1992ish... but it stretched back to around '89 I believe.

And what's all this about Galaxy Quest? In no way is that a Trek movie.

As others have pointed out, the odd/even "curse" is ridiculous, and something fans put way too much thought into.

If you read my post before hitting "reply" you might have noticed I talked about TFF also.

    This Is Cursed!!

Nah, it was just a fan-joke, didn't really have any effect on the films (many fans regard II/III and IV just a 3-part story anyways).

Viewing them with my fan hat off and critic hat on, I'd rate 'em:

    Star Trek 1 - 7/10
    Star Trek 2 - 10/10
    Star Trek 3 - 7/10
    Star Trek 4 - 6/10
    Sar Trek 5 - 6/10
    Star Trek 6 - 8/10
    Star Trek 7 - 2/10
    Star Trek 8 - 7/10
    Star Trek 9 - 6/10
    Star Trek 10 - 5/10

Nah, no curse. Just a fun, yet mediocre film franchise with one utter fucking masterpiece tucked in there.
