I've just finished watching the 'Mad about You' collection and was reminded of how much I loved the Buchmans. Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt seemed so perfect together. It got me to thinking, who are the great TV couples? Desi (Ricky) and Lucy? Mork and Mindy? Buffy and Angel? Who's your favourite? BTW, romantic couples only, so no Batman and Robin or Starsky and Hutch!!
You asking for full-fledged on-screen couples? Because on Lost, I would've PREFERRED Jack and Juliet over Jack and Kate. And you might get a lot of responses like that without more clarification. Tony Almeida and Michelle Dessler... although on 24, when they stop to do a romance subplot or any sort of subplot, it seems to be in rather poor taste because the characters take time away from FIGHTING A TERRORIST THREAT to deal with romance or petty office bickering or psychotic family members.
Full-fledged on-screen couples. No "Gee, I wish they'd got together" couples. Some of mine - Homer and Marge Sam and Diane (Cheers)
Nip/Tuck has been described as "a love affair between two men" and I thought that was a nice way to put it. Sean and Christian are closer to eachother than they are to any of the women in their lives. My other favorite is Brenda and Nate from Six Feet Under. From the moment they met, they seemed perfect for eachother.
Peter and Nathan Petrelli. Crichton & Aeryn = tru luv 4eveah! Also a big fan of Bill Adama & Laura Roslin. Frak yeah!
They were an awesome couple (and so were Niles and Daphne), but my vote has to go to John Crichton and Aeryn Sun!
Another fantastic couple (easily LOST's best and I love Charlie and Claire), but not quite up there with John and Aeryn.
Agreed, although I think the show did jump the shark once they got together. My favorite episodes of that show are often the ones where the smoldering sexual chemistry is just beneath the surface and they pull the rug out from under us at the last minute, like "Moon Dance." 2 other will-they/won't-they couples that I invested years into rooting for are Odo & Kira Nerys on Star Trek: DS9 and Wesley Wyndham-Price & Winifred Burkle on Angel. I have nothing but the best hopes & wishes for Rodney McKay & Jennifer Keller on Stargate Atlantis. I was a huge fan of Dave Nelson & Lisa Miller on NewsRadio. (Season 5, despite being Phil Hartman-less, might have been tolerable had they had Dave & Lisa get back together rather than marrying her off to that obnoxious Johnny Johnson.) For a couple that nearly killed each other as often as they loved each other, Dick Solomon & Mary Albright on 3rd Rock from the Sun. That was some great insanity right there. Oh, and an honorable mention for Cordelia Chase & Alan Francis Doyle on Angel. I'm sure they would have made beautiful music together had he not died a few minutes after she agreed to go out with him. ("I guess now we'll never know if this is a face you could learn to love." )
