The biggest hit to appear on RBN so far is Third Eye Blind's "Semi-Charmed Life," but it's not that great of a recording.
Someone did a leaderboard comparison and I thought Bang Camero had the most downloads? Yeah, unless you're into perfecting expert runs or you can get drunk with people and sing Lady Gaga songs... there's not much there for extended play. I'm looking forward to RB3 for the improvements, but I treat it just like itunes at this point... I use it when I'm bored and want to listen to music for 20 minutes.
I didn't mean hit as in "Rock Band downloads," I meant it as in "top of the charts" or most recognizable in pop culture.
Ahh, well, they've charted a few other big songs on RBN as well. I suppose they're the most populist though. I just wonder what will happen though - going through RBN means your song will hit the store faster (if at all, since they seem to be picky) but you will make less money. It's a trade off for sure.
Well, I recall reading that songs that were appearing in these games were leading to music sales by the artist on iTunes and such. So bands may be making less money through the game, but they consider it worthwhile if people start buying their songs/albums. Lesser-known bands indie may find that particularly appealing.
Honestly I've still been waiting for foreign language songs to hit either platform for ages. Of course Rock Band Japan/Asia has been cancelled or whatever, but there's no reason why some dudes can't just cheaply put their songs up on the network and hope for the best.
There have been a couple of foreign language songs in Rock Band... but yeah, in general it's lacking for that. So far the best track I've found on RBN is easily Unearth's We Are Not Anonymous. I'm not a big screamy metalcore kind of guy, but the song is awesome, and the chart is insanely fun (but not for the faint of heart). Some news about RB3: http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/28/rock-band-3-to-have-vocal-harmonies-harmonix-confirms/
I only did the harmonies once playing the Beatles game at a friend's but that was pretty cool. Glad to see it sticking around.
