Although with global warming, that may not be something we'll need to worry about in the next decade or so. This winter will tell if last year was an aberration or a sign of things to come.

Well, based on how 1960s Star Trek is portrayed, the earth of Kirk's era is USA influenced, Thanksgiving would be a planetwide holiday.

Yeah, I can see them celebrating the 17th century religious freedom of English refugees in 23rd century Somalia and Mongolia. :cardie:

The episode originally aired in mid-September, which is closer to Canadian thanksgiving, than American. And the actor playing Kirk is Canadian.

But given the primary audience at the time, likely the intent was American thanksgiving. Kirk is depicted on the show as (most likely) being an American, so the crew "gets" a American special holiday meal. We know they also have Christmas parties. If Kirk had been Saudi, then perhaps the crew would have had a special meal on Eid Al-Adha.

I had a boss once who would give his employees a pizza party every year on Stevie Nick's birthday (May 26).

    Captain's prerogative.

Ah, but in the 23rd century, is Iowa still part of American, or has it been annexed by Canada?
