    They're doing this to address an issue with DRM - namely format shifting. The digital copy on, for example, Hancock is playable on a PSP.

    I've already paid for an expensive Blu-Ray and so, legally, the only way I can play it on my PSP as well is if I buy the film on UMD as well. The digital copy Sony put on the second disc (which is a DVD, rather than a Blu-Ray) saves me that cost.

    As far as I am concerned it is a welcome additional feature.

    But are you willing to pay an additional $4 for it?

    I'm not. But I want special features.

    So I'm fucked.

    In my case, the discs I have with digital copy on them are Blu-Rays. They haven't cost me any more than they would without it.
