These costumes look more comfortable. And rank seems more obvious at a glance rather than by carefully looking at tiny pips only visible from one side and in an awkward spot (i.e. in the shadow of the head, where one turn of said head makes the pips invisible).
Cross-posting from the Voyager thread... Our first looks at Admiral Chekov in the new uniform: And Tuvok, who in Renegades is running Section 31:
wow those uniforms are pretty underwhelming. they sort of draw attention to themselves by both being different and bland.
Two rather cool photos here: http://trekweb.com/articles/2013/10/12/New-Star-Trek-Renegades-Photos-a-Photo-of-Adrienne-Wilkinson-as-Captain-Singh-on-the-Bridge-and-Reveals-the-Alien-Villain.shtml These are much better than the somewhat underwhelming photos above. Hopefully if it's well shot everything will look good.
Which is really odd, they somehow are capable of doing great prosthetics for aliens, but can't seem to make a fitting uniform.
Agreed on the costumes. I don't care for the design, and they are not well fitted. Quite surprising, given the attention to detail in other areas.
Well I guess something has to give. Everything else looks very well done, I just can't stand the Starfleet costumes. Ah well, mileage varies, and I'm sure others will love them. I hate to criticise, I really do, and I know this stuff's harder than it looks. So I'll just shut up.
I personally thought the costuming was the weak point of "Of Gods and Men," too. Still, Chekhov's looks okay, though I'm not over-fond of Tuvok's. Doesn't matter, I'm looking forward to the show.
Tuvok's outfit looks like maternity wear. It's not designed correctly for a typical male physique, which makes it look bad.
Honestly, the StarFleet uniforms look rather untailored, but they also kinda look designed that way. The overall look is fine. At least they don't look extremely uncomfortable the TNG uniforms did (and evidently were). DS9 was a major step up, save that the rank insignia still seemed stupid to me. Tiny pips visible from exactly one angle, easy to miss-count at quite a small distance and very easy to hide by someone turning their head! The other photos look tres cool, though!
