I've done a few sketches of a sort of 19th century military meets 80s punk kind of look. Tailcoat, big cuffs, tight jeans and big boots. Can't quite make it look 'Doctory' though.

Very nice drawing, but it only confirms that I'd rather see the Doctor wearing something more conventional.

It isn't working for me yet either. Still very early days for that one.

Well, I prefer it to the salmon one. :P

Replace tattered jeans with trousers, make the blue coat longer, and get him to tuck his shirt in and we're there! :)

Yeah, it's a little busy. The Naval coat is different, but it doesn't quite fit the whole ensemble.

A revision. Still a lot of changes/refinement to come.

You have design talent, man, and maybe Capaldi himself would've worn something like that circa 1979 when he went through a punk phase but that just looks wrong for the Doctor. IMO of course.

Though I understand it's a work in progress.

Yeah, the trick is merging the two. Need to find some elemental Doctor-ness to inject in there somehow.

That would work fantastically with a younger doctor like Matt Smith, but I don't think it'd work quite right with Capaldi.

My whole concept is actually this older (and older looking) Doctor reaching out to cling to a bit of his youth. Capaldi also has the thin and lanky frame that makes him suit this look, which is why I'm exploring it. I might never actually come up with a concept I like out of this sketching about.

Nope. I've got them all sitting in my Steam library from various summer/winter sales and I've never actually gotten around to playing them.

The young Smith in old mans clothes worked well with him, but I'm not sure that the old Capaldi in young mans clothes would work quite as well though. I don't want Capaldi to just be the complete opposite of Smiths doctor, and I don't want Capaldi to model himself on an existing doctor like Smith did.

Your concept could work, really I suppose I'd need to see a picture of Capaldi in the actual outfit to decide if it'd work or not. ;)

But personally, the way I see Capaldi's outfit is just age neutral, where any age could pull it off.

Still, keep up the good work. :P

Ouch! Forgotten already? You were just down ther
I prefer the naval coat with the cuffs rather than without.

I don't know why, mentally, I keep coming back to shades of punk for Capaldi. I guess it's just the notion that he's a vintage rebel. An old but vibrant man with echoes of his youth from long ago. He's the last surviving soldier from his revolution, a fight that his companions are too young to even know about.

I think the Season 8 soundtrack should be released under the title "Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the 12th Doctor."

So now we've seen Capaldi a bit now, any new thoughts on costume?

You mean the 13th? The 12th Doctor wore tweed jackets and bowties.

I love it. I would totally wear that. Not sure about the Doctor, tho. ;)

Love it, the Doc needs short sleeves now. It'd be perfect for the Pirates of the Caribbean crowd. I've always thought of a Doctor being a cross between Captain Jack and Sherlock Holmes.
