I like the new Color Palette alot, well done Venardhi It doesn't have a specific 1970s feel now, just a sort of hint/taste of the 1970s, kinda Retro tribute, IMHO. It's more a timeless classic look that could fit any time period, and be seen to be reminiscent of that period
I'm not sure I like the coat, which feels a bit too Season 18 Tom Baker. But I really liked the salmon look. It gave it a specifically dated look that I think would work. I dunno. I've been noticing an anti-beard trend, at least in show biz marketing circles. (I've noticed at least a couple movie posters recently where a character has a beard in the movie but is clean-shaven in the poster or DVD cover. Ben Affleck in Chasing Amy & the main guy in Drinking Buddies come immediately to mind.)
Chasing Amy was 16 years ago! But yeah that's always bugged me, I'm presuming it was to make Affleck look more like a romantic lead...or it could have just been because by the time they did the promo pics he was clean shave (unlikely I know). If Alexander Siddig had been the new Doctor I'd have wanted him to have a beard, but Capaldi I think it ages him somewhat, though I like the crazy beard he was sporting a while ago (which I'm assuming was his Cardinel Richelou look!)
I went a bit crazy with the Star Trek Online character creator and made a toon as close to Capaldi as possible... with a bit of a unique costume (to keep it thread related).
The first two are too close to Smith's costumes. I like them (especially the 2nd), but I doubt they would go for something that close to what Smith has basically worn in season 6 and 7. The third is my favorite. I always thought of Capaldi as a "mad Victorian professor" and this is the closest to that look; even though the wide lapels evoke a 70's feel.
Again, they're all multiple layers of the same costume. The far right would be the 'standard' with the other two serving as variants in appropriate settings and the scarf being an accessory for any of the 3.
I think it would be hilarious if the newly regenerated Doctor came out of the wardrobe wearing ONLY a scarf. Clara could exclaim its inappropriateness and a befuddled Capaldi could say something like, "Everyone used to love scarfs..."
Works for me. I'm suddenly trying to picture Capaldi in a costume with a bit of a 19th century military feel. Think Captain John Hart but with a more subdued color palette.
