Who would be part of your ship's security detail? (Multiple choice)

This is a popular vote. Choose as many as you like. For reference, I added episodes to non-main characters. Basically, remember the episode and figure for yourself how good security was that episode. My top 3 (in no particular order) would be Worf, Tuvok, and Reed. They take their job the most seriously.

So few of the security officers in Trek were actually good security officers. I agree with Odo and Tuvok having the most votes. Odo is, well, obvious, and Tuvok is the quintessential competent professional. Most security officers in Trek are either people who are more suited for other roles or boring incompetents who drop their guard and the forcefield for every prisoner with a stomach ache.

How can anyone vote for Worf? He always gets his butt handed to him. Hence the Worf Effect trope.

Odo could BECOME Worf (or any of the other Security Chiefs) if he wanted to. And stretch out his hand into a ten foot long tentacle to slap someone misbehaving on the promenade.

Gotta go with that guy.

Odo can look like Worf (down to the molecule) but he can't become Worf. They have two different mindsets.

From what I recall, one of them "became" Bashir pretty convincingly enough.

I always like to work with four-person security teams, so my team would be:
Lt. Commander Tuvok - With a great tactical mind and the high stamina of a Vulcan, he is ideally suited to his role.
Lieutenant Natasha Yar - She's quick off the mark, her upbringing also makes her a tough cookie.
Ensign Sito Jaxa - A woman of great strength and diligence.
Odo - Not only is he a shape-shifter but also an excellent investigator.

Most of the time he just gets his sorry butt kicked. In TNG, he is pretty much useless, but you're right, he does improve in DS9.

Yes!

I would LOVE to see Sito onscreen in Trek again! I always thought it was such a damn shame to have her character go through such a moral transition across episodes, only to have it all go "thbbbbppthh" when some trigger-happy Cardassian incinerated her escape pod.

If Trek could somehow "unkill" her, that would be something I'd make a point of watching.

Kind of guts the story if you bring her back.

Picard's moment where he announces her death was not only remarkable moving, but it reminds us all how cool of a character she was.

That's why poor O'Brien gets stuck in a sandy prison in "Hard Time" instead of Sito (the original premise given for the show was that the girl had been in a Cardassian internment center this entire time). Basically everything that happens to our Irish Fellow in that ep- including the gruesome neck-snapping incident- was originally going to be her...

Don't get me wrong, I voted for Odo but I'd figure he'd trail for the lead. While he was knocking boots with the Founder, he shook his duties. Looks like no one is holding that against him.
