'Thigh Bone' on Mars Is Just Another Rock, NASA Says

A photo from NASA's Curiosity rover on Mars set the Internet abuzz this week with claims that the robot had found a "thigh bone" on the Red Planet.

    But not so fast.

That so-called bone? Just a weathered Martian rock, NASA says.

The article said that NASA THINKS it might know what the Thigh Bone is. NASA shouldn't be in the business of thinking but should actually know what it is by doing tests on the Thigh Bone. Thee Thigh Bone may not be fossilized but it could be petrified just like the Petrified Forest in Arizona. At first glance of the petrified forest one would think that the pieces were just chunks of rock but upon further investigation the rocks actually reveal that they are petrified sections of large trees.

    Obvious cover-up is obvious.

Thy, not thee, and what would my or anyone's thigh bone have to do with it anyway?

Dryson, you're in the wrong section, this thread belongs in the Pseudoscience section of the board. This is the Science section; it's for real things.

This thread will have a very short life if it doesn't start bringing in some facts rather than silly speculation implying NASA is covering something up.

The stupidity just baffles me. Like I really, really am dumbfounded by the kind of twisted thinking and "logic" that would have to be involved to convince oneself of something like this...

NASA: smart enough to send a robot to Mars, find evidence of life, and hide that fact from the vast majority of the public. So stupid it releases photos of the evidence. Because, like, robots and rockets and complex physics calculations: easy. Free online photo-editing: impossibly hard.

    Alternative hypothesis: pareidolia.

Yes, if any meaningful life with such bones in them ever existed on Mars it hasn't been around for many, many, possibly hundreds of millions of years. Considering to find the fossilized remains of creatures on planet from "just" 60-100 million years ago is an enormous undertaking, not to mention pretty much just educated chance to even find a place where there might be one.

This Mars rover just happened to land within "driving distance" of a surfaced fossil/bone/remains of a Martian creature that, again, hasn't been around for probably over 100 million years.

I bet NASA increased the odds of finding it by approaching the face on Mars from below it's chin.

I forget. Is the chin bone connected to the thigh bone?

Oh, I'd say the OP is quite qualified to discuss "not thinking."

We'll never know unless we find the rest of the skeleton.

Who knows what a Martian thigh connects to? Do Martians even have thighs? How could Nasa hide the answers unless they already had a Martian in their possession? Or have the Martians taken over Nasa?

It was easy. All the Martians had to do was flash their thighs at the right people.

It is a rather spartan planet.

Guh, don't you guys know that we are martians? That they colonized our planet at the dawn of time and we are their descendants? Come on, sheeple!

So, Gilligan's Island is a Martian race memory of how things started here?
