I think there is a lot of potential in the D&D universe, but there are definitely a lot of other franchises I would rather see developed, like the non-Batman or Superman DC characters.

It looks like Harry Potter, and they want to keep that audience buying stuff from Warners.

It should look like Lord of the Rings and try to keep that audience buying stuff.

Seems like a good license, and in this post-LOTR GoT world, they might have an idea of how to make it work. Might want to leave that Snails character behind, and maybe the blue lipstick as well.

I'll wait for the Runequest movie instead.

So I guess I'll be waiting a very long time.

    I'm sure they want both.

As long as they don't cast Jeremy Irons again. Irons and dragons don't mix well.

It can't be any worse than the first movie.

...well, it can, but that would be truly horrific.

Fantasy is big nowadays, so this isn't a huge surprise. I just hope they have a decent script and a competent director this time.

It should have worked. They just needed a direct competition to see who chomped the scenery harder.

They're not really rebooting it, are they? They're just thinking of using the D&D brand for a different movie. There's not much to D&D anyway, it's just vanilla fantasy.

Everybody uses the "reboot" term incorrectly these days. It's just taking the name and putting it on a new movie.

Well, unless they use the 80s cartoon as a basis and really do try to go for the Harry Potter family-friendly crowds.

Fuck the tired, straight up fantasy angle. The only way for this to be a critical and commercial success is with genuine subterfuge on the part of the actual D&D world.

I envision it as a group of D&D nerds, back in the 70s when it was a brand new thing, fighting monsters in the family rec room. The style would change to CG for the fight scenes. But the dudes fighting would be be these pimply, bespectacled teenagers who are completely kicking ass, etc. in their game. All the school girls they have crushes on would be maidens to save in their game.

It would be perfect for Wes Anderson. I think it would be hilarious and awesome.

This is what they need to do.
