    Newb alert!

Greeting from the land of guiness and O'Brien,

The names Lanny. I've been a trek fan pretty much since I was a kid watching TNG and DS9 in the 90's on RTÉ. Since then, I've been an utter sci-fi addict. Stumbled across this forum a few weeks back and been lurking pretty much since.

If you are interested, there's a place called the Red Shirt Lounge for people new to the forums :) it's quite fun.

I've been off the boards for a long time, but I've decided to check in again (having slow days at work helps).

Is there a Trek chat board? You know there really should be.

    Hi All,

I've probably posted here already but forgot. I joined ages ago but then got distracted with other boards. I was born a trekkie and I seem to be getting more obsessed every year!

Uh... do all beginners here rank cadet or is the academy unusually expandable?

^Yes, all beginners start as cadets. You rank up as you post more. Welcome to the board!

OK... I'll start with cadet. That's fine with me (so as to say... really really .. really.. fine with me... well... maybe a little frustrated? I don't know... uh.. so be it.. then) (Hell! I'm a doctor.. don't science officers and doctors start with lieutenant?)

So.. I'm in the academy. What next? Oh.. wait. There's something I'd really really love to try. THE STARBUST TRICK! Can I fly that? Please...

Hey, JKK. Perhaps I am misreading your posts, and forgive me if I am, but this place isn't an MMORPG, it's just a message board to talk about trek. The ranks are pretty meaningless and really only determine which lounge you can post in. Again, sorry if I misread your intention.

I don't believe I've posted in this thread. I joined some years ago then left, and recently came back.

I've been a Star Trek fan all my life, though I was an adult before I realized it.

When I was a kid, I used to have a babysitter (and her friends) who would watch TOS reruns when I was over. My parents were strict and didn't let me watch much TV, so I didn't see it outside my babysitters and didn't talk about it at all.

Some years later in college, I got into TNG through reruns and I happened across an episode of TOS. I was like, "Hey, so THIS is the original Star Trek series people keep talking about! I didn't realize I'd seen it before." It was weird recognizing the show, yet not having remembered that it is Star Trek. That's when I knew I was home. :)

Well.. what do ya know. People around here are nice enough to let me know where am I and what I can do. Thanks (sorry if you thought of me as fooling around.. I didn't mean to. Just trying to get some attention.)

But I believe I should be more of a listener here. My knowledge on 'Trek' isn't broad enough.. I think. Thanks people.. for the tip. (I'll try not to be so annoying next time.. I promise)
