More than ten years ago, when the dinossaurs walking on Earth, there was a group named Wolfpack. They were the first ones to make scifi meshes available, and who inspired me in my 3d adventures. In 1998 Eric Peterson built, between other meshes, the Apollo Class. It isn´t a public release, but I always loved that ship. So, I trying to build my own version. Take a look and tell me what do you think about her.
Being a little pendantic, but I was seeing 'sci-fi' meshes on UseNet back in 1989... ray-traced Enterprise variants were all the rage back then. *hits young whipper-snappers with his cane*
I might have seen that ship back in the early 90's. I always loved the Nebula style and you're doing great work on this one.
Thank you for the kind words. It isn´t a big update, but here it goes anyway. Added the thusters and started to play with colors.
I was never really a fan of the Ambassador-style line of ships but for some reason this one always worked for me. The weapons pod on top just exudes a certain unique level of un-Starfleet bad-assness, which is probably why I like it so much. You are definitely doing this old girl justice! And yeah, I miss the old WolfPack stuff. A shame their site hasn't been updated since 1997 - they were some of the earliest pioneers of real next-generation (pun not intended) fan-made designs and renderings. Some of their stuff still holds up pretty well today compared to the more advanced meshes, texture/bump maps and rendering engines that have since been built.
Update time! The plateau was redone; - The plateau, the upper structures and sec hull were repositionated; - the neck won´t have torp launchers anymore; - the ship is a little longer now, but I believe it makes her better ballanced; Is it better?
Eric´s original version didn´t have a neck, nor a torpedo launcher, but there was a gap between the sec hull and the saucer. I do believe that a neck is needed, but the torp launcher will be blocked by the saucer profile, so... My intention is to put them in the sec hull´s "belly"
Would it not make sense to put the launchers in the twin delta pods at the top, like they were on the Nebula class? Or is that device purely used for long range sensors?
