The only reason to have a Starfleet Academy...

    I always wondered why there was only one Academy though. For such a large Federation I would think you would have more then one place to teach people.

    In addition to bonding/learning to work with fellow cadets, there's learning to follow orders from a superior. If you're going to be cooped up in a starship cooperating with and taking orders from other people, it's best to learn how to do it with other people.

    They may have had other campuses, but cadets were required to complete at least a portion of their education in San Francisco.
