Who's doing it this year? This will be my 6th attempt at NaNo, and hopefully I'll actually succeed this time! My biggest problem in past years has been that I'm always drunk on Halloween night, so I'm always behind by the time midnight on November 1st rolls around. This year, however, I am going to kick its ass. I've been anticipating it since September. I already have my story idea, and I will have lots of time to write. I spent most of my week at work bored out of my mind (I usually have about 5 hours of real work to do in a given 40-hour week).
I'm right there with you buddy! I have a 4000 word outline O_O-- all of it is just description for what I want to write. This is my second year-- last year I wasn't even close. I'm pretty committed; I'm giving up alcohol (of all forms) until all 50,000 words are down. If there's more interest here, we should make this our support thread!
Yeah but it's mostly just me jabbering to myself about what I want to do and problems to work out . None of it (per the rules) can actually used for the 50k story itself.
I did JulNoWriMo because November is just such a horrible time for me. Always too busy. Good luck to those of you doing this, though!

Be nice, people. NaNoWriMo = National Novel Writing Month. It happens every November. The goal is to write a 50,000 word novel in one month's time.
So it's not a discussion board then? What have I been doing here all these years? Anyway, now that I know what it is, good luck to all who are participating. It is definitely not something I would attempt.

I always want to participate but then I never do. So I'll not say anything on that this year. What are you guys writing about?
Good luck for those doing it! I "won" last year, finished just over 53K. I'm doing a another re-write on my book from last year, and have been fleshing it out to add length. I intend to get it to a publishable length and actually start submitting it to small publishing houses. Got my first publishing credit under my belt this year, and have managed to find a renewed sense of of writing discipline. November for me will be spent getting last year's book finished now that my very busy summer has ended. I credit my NaNoWriMo participation for helping me find a writing process that works for me. I think you can do it, RoJoHen. Something that worked for me was marking my daily and total word count on a calendar next to the needed pace to hit 50K. Another bit of advice: never stop for the day by finishing a scene, because it could be tough to start the next scene cold. In the second half of the month, I started writing a paragraph or two of a scene before I would stop for the night, so I could easily jump right into it the next day. Good luck!
