Sitcoms have fallen into this pattern that's a weird conservative version of liberalism. Like, they show things like homosexuality and nontraditional families as just normal, but apply the 1950s style of family as the ideal family for all those groups. So it's okay to be gay, so long as you don't dare deviate from the traditional family unit model and still conform to all mainstream expectations for how a family behaves.

Only difference is now you're allowed to do it with people the same gender as you.

Sitcoms build conflict basically by having one character deviate from social expectations, then realize that they should not have deviated from social expectations.

And all with a veneer of obnoxious sarcasm.

You bring up a very good point. It is like a 50s family with gays. While gay families and straight families can be the same, they sometimes are not. There is no longer the guy works, wife stays at home. It's really boring with the fact that now it's the guy stays home and the wife works.

You think 60 years later they would have been more creative with straight and gay families. People work more, are open to more, maybe even open relationships, divorces, no longer following social normals.

I can't stand Modern Family because it's stupid, unfunny, stereotypes. Old guy gets hot young wife, attractive wife + stupid husband, then the gay characters are like angels and they bitch and moan but at the end of the episode everything is fine. It's sickening. Add something real to it. People fight, gays aren't perfect, have fun with the characters, challenge the audience.

It's why my favorite comedies in recent years have been Community, Raising Hope and Boston Legal. All very different types of comedies.

All the comedies looked awful this season so I didn't even sample any. Same thing happened last season.

The gays on Modern Family are far from perfect.

In the Actors Studio, the little ginger was mocking the bear because he's "Gay for Pay" and not really gay like he is... Besides, they're named after a character from Stargate, it's not like they're grounded in reality.

It's really not that much better, adjusted for inflation, than the original Knight Rider.

It does have a Knight Ridery "vibe" to it.

Super Fun Night will be cancelled with two things happen:

    1) They realize they won't be able to have a "Super Fun Night" every episode.
    2) That Rebel Wilson is a one note actress, playing "Fat Amy" over and over again.

Looks like "We Are Men" got the ax, and they didn't even make it to a third episode. Monday "2 Broke Girls" will move to their old time-slot and Big Bang Theory (a repeat) will take the nine o'clock slot.

And the rerun of Big Bang Theory will probably get higher ratings than the other sitcoms on CBS that night. Kinda pathetic for CBS.

Same thing happened with House. Fox had nothing better to show and House would fill in and get 4-6 million viewers in reruns on a Friday.

No surprises there. What did Ironside really have to set it apart from all the other cop shows except for the fact that he's in a wheel chair? I know it was a remake from the show with Raymond Burr, but I can't imagine that would really attract any viewers to the new show.

But I had been waiting for the longest time for Spencer Grammer to make it back on TV. :(

The "can I punch you in the balls" line was great on Welcome to the Family.

It was a hell of lot better thought out that the Michael J Fox Show.
