I'm a waiter at a steak house, so I'm used to dealing with people. Most of these people are some of the nicest you'll ever meet, some are the douche-ist of the douchebags. All in all, I have over ten years of serving experience with a wide array of people. But, something has been grating on my mind here lately, and an event on Saturday night brought this question to the front of my mind. When did camouflage become acceptable dinner attire? I'm aware that some people hunt, others are in the military. I don't have a problem with people going out to eat in BDUs. It's the people wearing pristine, clean camo that's got me baffled. "Put on your finest camo, we're going out to eat! Wooo!" This says to me that they've not done any hunting, and they're wearing it because they think it's cool. But, the event that happened Saturday was some of the area schools were having their proms. And some boys came in wearing black tuxedos with CAMOUFLAGE VESTS AND TIES. WTF? When did this become acceptable? When did this become cool? But, most importantly, WHY did this become cool?
Camo has come in and out several times over the past couple of decades. Don't worry, it'll disappear again soon.
If someone's just back from a hunting trip and needs to go to a restaurant, he must not be a very good hunter.
The thing I don't understand is pink camo. Where exactly does that help you hide? I also don't understand the digicam pattern, are we hiding inside a computer monitor that we need to be pixelated? But as for tux accessories coming in camo pattern... you can get vests and ties patterned in cartoon characters, so why not camo?
Oh, well, I have always understand that "hunting trip" is generally code for "we will sit around a campfire and drink for two days and then go home." *cue "Second Day of Deer Camp" song*
Camo is nothing. You should be worried about denim! When did denim become acceptable dinner attire? I'm aware that some people do manual labour, others are seamen. I don't have a problem with people going out to eat in their work overalls. It's the people wearing pristine, clean denim that's got me baffled. "Put on your finest denim, we're going out to eat! Wooo!" This says to me that they've not done any labour, and they're wearing it because they think it's cool. WTF? When did this become acceptable? When did this become cool? But, most importantly, WHY did this become cool?
^About 30 years ago, when expensive denim became a fashion statement. For a casual meal, clean, nice jeans and a nice top became acceptable in most places.
When it comes to attire, I generally wear things I find comfortable to wear. But speaking in general terms, would I wear a camo tie, probably not. As for a camo vest surely that would be worn under a shirt. Though I wouldn't wear a camo waistcoat as part of a formal occasion. (and yes I do know US Vest = UK Waistcoat)
I've always wanted to bump into someone wearing camo and say "Sorry. I didn't see you." I've also thought of the idea for "Urban camo". Imagine a t-shirt with a brick wall pattern on it, etc.
my thoughts on fashion in general: don't moan about it unless you're being forced to wear it. and it if you are being forced to wear it, call the police.
Are you having computer issues? You posted the same thing twice at 2:14 and then again at 2:26 ... or did you intend to post your "funny rant" three times?
