OK, checklist for SG-90210: 20 something cast? check. Dark and gritty nubsg cinematography? check. Cameos from previous SG-1? check. confusing "who's in charge?" scene reminiscent of Lost premiere? check. Noble sacrifice scene? check. Pathos and Drama? check. Explosions? check.
Neither Rush nor Young are 20-something, and Ming-Na is kidding you if she says she is. OK, the new lieutenants are 20-something, but then... that's how old fresh lieutenants are. Which has what to do with 90210? Did we really expect otherwise, for an SG spinoff pilot? Most spin-offs do this, look at Emissary and Caretaker. Even Encounter at Farpoint had McCoy. There a TV show without these? I'm quite glad the show has drama, myself.
Yes my greatest fear is this will become 90210 in space with the horrible acting from unknowns. The three things I didn't like about the first two hours were, the first hour was edited terribly, the camera angles were just really insane, aka they were trying to hard to be different, and the acting for the most part seemed like a middle school play. Not even a high school play, middle school.
Because we enjoy it if you don't thats fine am sure you can find something else to do with your time. Its popcorn TV easy to watch & to enjoy. Its ok for TV to take it self seriously but if it all does it it becomes tiresome and of course it must avoid it self being CW popcorn which SG does.
It has a very large fan base, 10 years of SG-1, 5 years of Atlantis, it has a very big universe to explore, and is quite fascinating. Unlike some, we are giving SGU a chance, why immediately judge it, let's see what they do with it and where it goes.
If you want sci-fi on TV, there aren't many alternatives. Reruns of good shows can only entertain for so long.
Don't see why some have problems with the camera angles, I didn't even notice the filming style. Maybe im used to it by now.
