When are Japanese people going to stop making movies like Space Battleship Yamato?

besides the bismark (german) the Yamato WAS and still is the greatest battle ship in the history of the world... I do enjoy the New Jersey and the Misouri and their sister ships... but they were second class to the Yamato... and alway's will be...

so why not make a battleship movie about your greatest achievement....

Its interesting to note..despite the heavier guns, the throw-weight of the battleship New Jersey's weaponry was greater than that of the Yamato even in WWII. In fact, overall it greatly overmatched it in defensive capabilites, fire control and speed, not to mention radar..Yamato would never have stood a chance in a one-on-one engagement.

This actually looks pretty good. I say that without ever having seen an episode of the animated version, though I've seen lots of images from it.

This looks cheap as heck... And I am the only one who wants to reach out and tell the main character (I assume) to "cut his damn hair"??? :)

Most people agree that the Missouri, being faster and having far better fire control and targeting - and WAY better anti-aircraft - would have sunk the Yamato.

As any EVE Online player can tell you, having the bigger guns doesn't equal win if your opponent is a better shot.

Therefore the Might Mo is not "second class" if it can beat down the "first class".

The Yamato/Musashi's 18" guns were not as effective as they should have been. The shells were optimized to travel well through water. (The theory being that a short would hit the opponent's ship below the armor belt and do more damage). The Iowa's has functional radar fire controls so they could more likely score a hit before the Yamato's optical sights had a solution.

Needless to say this is an old argument. Probably the fight would go to who made the first hit.

Bismark was far inferior to both. Basically a WW1 design, armor optimized for relatively close ranges fights like Jutland.

Hope it makes it stateside to a theater we can get too. My son is really into Yamato and Starblazers, he'll get a kick out of this -- so will daddy.

It looks dorkier in live action than it does in the source material.
