Huh. You know, I've got to say I was never much impressed with the first movie. Maybe I'll give another watch and re-think.
I know the first movie is popular, but to me it always seemed like the premise of a comedy short had been stretched to feature length to make it. There are funny moments, but overall it's just to thin for me to remember it all that fondly.
The general "idea" of it was pretty funny but I think some elements went too... broad. Like the Steve Carrel character losing his arm in an alley fight (!) and stuff along those lines. It should've, I think, stayed more strictly as a comedic parody of 1970s news media and the machismo in it.
Huh. I thought this was something I missed last night But apparently the Ron Burgundy announcement is tonight on an all new Conan. Snafu? Jumping the gun teamcoco? I know the episodes are filmed like in the afternoon.
This was one of those movies that the first time I watched it, I didn't quite get the hype. But then as I caught bits and pieces of it on TV and watched it a couple more times over the years, it really grew on me. I heartily welcome a sequel.
The first had a few good one-liners, but overall yeah.... not that impressed. Allegedly, it gets better with repeat viewings, but I wouldn't know.
Yeah I've only ever seen it the once and I wasn't that impressed, and I went with a group and I think I was the one who found it the funniest! I recall the alley fight being funny but the rest...nah not so much. Ferrell's best roles are still the smaller appearances rather than as the star (ie Mugatu)
So Will Ferrell has reached the conclusion we all came to 5 years ago; he'll never make anything as good as Anchorman. But a sequel? Really? Kinda seems desperate to me. And Trekker, it wasn't Steve Carell's character who lost his arm, it was a rival news team member played by Luke Wilson.
Oh, I'm definitely, definitely looking forward to this. The first one grew on me with repeat viewings.
