I've just installed it but cannot get connected. I'm playing the free version and keep getting:

Connection to login server timed out.

    Anyone have any ideas?

The server is down for a 1 hour maintenance, it should be back in about 10 minutes. Seems to be a daily occurrence this week.

That's the thing with MMOs especially when they introduce major changes. Things never go 100% according to plan and they have to make emergency tweaks. The number of server maintenance should subside in a month or so.

Wow after turning the half resolution option off the game looks way better I can even make out the detail of the Enterprise Uniform rank pips now.

I've gotten on and started playing. I think I need to tweak the resolution because it is very slow.

I am now two missions away from completing the Klingon War storyline. Has been a blast:cool: This game is much better than Champions Online( though its a good game, too.)
(Had to replay one mission, because it some reason could not continue after I logged back in..well, that was a small nitpick and I had fun the second time around)
I also was shooting some Gorn ships to pieces..and salvaged some new weaponry.

I think that Lt.Commander Gilmore deserves a holiday, so I maybe head to Risa later..or to a club, where I can wear my new off-duty clothes.
I have learned to love my escort and It looks good now, after I replaced the Saber-class nacelles with other ones, earlier:bolian:

Honestly I had always though that it was a hardware issue like I needed a better graphics card I didn't even know you could change the resolution until someone mentioned it in a comment for the F2P trailer on Youtube.

After playing with my Eng alt who uses a Defiant retrofit I am seriously considering using an escort on my Tac alt if the Odyssey isn't all that, seeing as they seem to do more damage.

Nice to hear it's working out better :)

Just been playing with a Tac alt, seeing if I like the escort play style when working from the ground up. Have to say I'm liking the aggressive playstyle quite a bit, though I figured I might enjoy it after playing with Klingons and their 'every ship has cannons' gameplay :p Up to the Akira now, and got a theme of naming all my ships after pirates. Also the chance to see other Science powers that are available has me intrigued to give them a go at some point.

Well you do have the option to get it back at Vice Admiral if you have enough dilithium, or are willing to either pay $25 or sell dilithium until you get the amount of C-points you need and be able to use it on any other federation characters you make.

    I wouldn't as a tac officer...
As pretty as she is, she is such an engineering beast at VA. So far that I'd say at least one engineering station is completely redundant... she'd do far better with another sci station instead.
Tac/Cruiser combination would better to keep the Sovereign or if you go with a C-Store cruiser pick the Excelsior.
That one comes with special Transwarp abilities and a very valuable Tactical Lt Commander station, plus it turns like a smaller sci ship.

Yeah but the saucer separation ability helps with the VA Galaxy as it now has way a better turn rate and you have an extra ship to attack with.

Of course if you want to switch to an escort for any reason I recommend the Defiant IT IS a tough little ship especially with the quad cannons.

Sweet, I finally got a Purple Male Vulcan Science Boff. It even has the Mind Meld Passive.

I found the novelty wore off of the saucer sep pretty quickly, but I suppose if you used a lot of narrow-focus weapons it might be a different picture.

Yeah, my main is a Tac and I used the VA Galaxy class for a while. Loved it, but even with consoles, it was still a PITA to turn, and separating left me exposed with a much weaker secondary hull. I switched to the Excelsior Retrofit at that point. It handled better, had higher DPS, but I still wasn't getting the best performance I could. I've now switched over to my Sovereign, and I love it, but still, it's more than a bit underpowered. That said, I'm not getting an Escort because Jesus Christ I can't afford any more ships.

Is there any major difference between Mark X and Mark XI purple ship weapons?

I haven't noticed any real difference. I did have some Mark XI purple beam arrays, but I got rid of them and switched to all Mark X purples (I'm using one type of beam for all hardpoints) and can still blast the hell out of just about anything as effectively as before.

Mk Xi will have higher damage. Not sure if how muchore and if it is a flat bonus or a multiplicator that gets more efficient depending on your other damage modifications and bonuses.
