Hi, Im am making a Operating System, not a theme, not a GUI, an OS based on Star Trek's LCARS. It will be built on the Linux Kernal. For more details, please visit:http://sites.google.com/site/lcarslinux The site is a little crude, but im in the process of making a better LCARS terminal style website. Anyone have ideas or comments? Regards, Hamish.
Why websites? Yeah, sorry, im working on the new site, which should be done in a few days. Soon i will be putting a form up for people to register try out the beta version on their computers so i can make sure it works.
I remember a person from last year saying they were making a linux lcars. Hiroki- something... here: http://www.trekbbs.com/member.php?u=5948 You may want to chat with him. He had set up a website he posted a link to once.
Feel free. I abandoned the project because when it come down to designing applications forms, I found the lcars GUI was too low density (and too bright) to be practical. If you wanted to do a widescreen version as well, you have two ways of using that extra space: (1) Like in ST:Insurrection, have a column of buttons on the left, perhaps for commonly used applications or recent files, like your desktop icons/quickstart menu. (2) Extend the elbows full length to give your applications area more width. This doesn't look too bad actually, and would make having two applications side-by side work better.
Hi guys, Its the same guy. LCARS Linux has started to fly. We have got 5 Coders/Idea Bringers and the OS has already started to be made. We have got a few concepts, a forum and some documentation which will soon be ported into a Wiki for easier customization and editing. We also have a development blog at: http://lcarslinuxdevelopmentblog.blogspot.com If you want up-to-date info, be sure to subscribe to the RSS feed. We have since developed new ideas for things that will need to be made from the ground up, which will need nearly 1,000,000 lines of code we believe, So we dont expect a first Beta until around about 2012. We have set the date so far ahead so we have to time to get all major kinks and bugs out, but we will need testers for the minor bugs. -Hamish EDIT: Might help if I give you the link: http://lcarslinux.freehostia.com
