http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9K_Fz3J2sAE&feature=player_embedded#! I'm surprised people aren't showing much interest in this movie since many people keep complaining about how comics and video games dominate genre movies these days.
This looks really good. I haven't read the book, so I don't know how close it is to the source material, but coming in knowing nothing about it, the trailers have made me very interested.
I've read the book twice (yes it's that good) and I recognize most of the scenes. There is some new stuff especially Sonmi451 escape from Nea So Copros (Korea) which is different and the original trailer implies that they may have changed the ending for her story.
I'm absolutely interested in this film. The trailers - especially the five-minute one, which I'd go so far as to say is a short-film in and of itself - have been fantastic. I'm going to wait to read the book afterward, though, because I'd like the film experience to be as pure as possible. ETA: Ditto for Life of Pi
Trailer looks kind of "Sucker Punch"-ish to me (neat visuals but maybe too slick and removed) and I haven't seen enough story hook to sell me yet (as I haven't read the book).
This could just be coincidental design, but the building in the shot below sure looks a lot like a slightly modified Taipei 101, so I wonder if that possibly means they relocated that part of the story from Korea to Taiwan. I doubt it, but it's food for thought. Anyway, the movie looks visually stunning, the premise is interesting, and the cast is magnificent, so I'm really looking forward to this. Hopefully the dialogue and story can live up to everything else.
I haven't read the book, but from what I've read about the story online this doesn't seem like the kind of story that can really be communicated through trailers. Did you watch the 6 minute trailer? That one does give a little bit better feel for the movie. I found this description of the book on Barnes and Nobles website:
It's possible but the actress playing Sonmi is still Korean. What's funny but I saw it on the new trailer (and it's confirmed by wikipedia) that Doona Bae is also playing Tilda Ewing, the wife of the Adam Ewing. It seems the Wachowski really want to have fun with this movie
"From the creators of The Matrix." Not sure if that's good or bad. The trailer certainly does look appealing, though. I'll have to track down the longer one.
Interesting article about the Wachowskis and their process in making the film. http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2012/09/10/120910fa_fact_hemon?currentPage=all Long trailer is here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgI6EeYbV84 Looks stunning! Jan
^^ Thanks for the link. This does look really good. I hope the movie lives up to what that trailer promises.
Here's the full video of a press conference done with the cast and directors: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnG5zbg8NoM
And here's a new 30 second TV spot for it, which I think uses only footage that was already seen in the other trailers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0S7wPPDZC4
