Vin Diesel has announced on Facebook that filming will be starting soon. He's mentioned Riddick's home planet quite a few times (can't remember if it's Fury or Furyan) so that could be a hint.
Awesome!!! Chronicles of Riddick is very underrated, I found it to be a highly imaginative film, that was paced much better in it's directors cut.
Great news...have wanted a continuation of the franchise since the end of "Chronicles of Riddick". I wonder what version of the script that they decided to go with since there were two of them, the one I read was fantastic.
For real? I like Vin Diesel and it's time to have a real badass again in the movies. Definitely looking forward to it.
He had to get Fast & Furious and Hannibal the Conqueror out of the way first. According to his musings, the script was agreed last year but after a very dry spell, his dance card was suddenly full, so this was third in line.
I'm hoping they picked the Dead Man Stalking script...it takes place several months after Chronicles ends and sets up the rest of the movie.
I didn't really care for Pitch Black, so I gave Chronicles of Riddick a pass. I may have to re-consider.
Nice. For anyone who was a fan of these films, I highly recommend checking out the "Escape from Butcher Bay" and "Assault on Dark Athena" games, which are very well made (starring Vin) and add a lot to the Riddickverse.
I'm weird, I like Chronicles of Riddick and I've been wanting to see more. Wassup with Hannibal the Conqueror anyway? Movie, TV? Netflix doesn't list it at all - it'll be on DVD anyway, right?
Twohy wrote two scripts, but they're probably going with the Dead Man Stalking concept to bring events back to a smaller scale. I doubt the film will spend any considerable amount of time, if any at all, in the Underverse, since that would likely require a larger budget than Twohy and Diesel are trying for. I really liked both Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick (as well as Escape from Butcher Bay, though I haven't played Assault on Dark Athena), so I'm looking forward to this, although I am disappointed Chronicles didn't do better financially in order to warrant a large-scale sequel. That's a universe that I'd love to see explored a lot more.
