OK, here's an idea: recast some of your favourite movies. The movies are made in exactly the same way (script/directing, ect) and made in the same year as they were in real life, only substitute the real cast with your own choice actors (who were the right age at the time or sadly no longer with us now). Here's my choice alternate cast ensemble for key Bond movie, GoldenEye (1995): GoldenEye James Bond - Liam Neeson Alec Trevelyan - Peter Firth Natalya Simonova - Gina Bellman Xenia Onatopp - Jeri Ryan Jack Wade - Robert Wagner M - Helen Mirren Col./General Ourumov - Rade Sherbedgia Zukovsky - Nicholas Worth (RIP) Boris Grishenko - Andy Serkis Defence Minister Dimitri Mishkin - Nick Brimble
Star Trek (2009) Kirk: Matt Damon McCoy: Gary Sinese Scotty: Billy Connolly Nero: John Malkovich (stumped at the moment for the rest of the cast)
^ Damon was a bit old to have played Jim Kirk per XI's script, don't y'all think? The question is an interesting one. If a movie's one of your favorites, would you really want to mess with its casting? And if it isn't, do you really care? Anyhow, I've got a few suggestions: - I've got nothing against Viggo - he's a very fine and soulfoul actor - but I've always kinda wanted to see Oded Fehr as Aragorn. - Not a big HP fan, but Gambon should've been Dumbledore from the start. A legendary wizard that even Voldy was afraid of? In Chamber, Harris could barely speak above a whisper! - It was far from a great movie, but even though Philip Pullman personally lobbied Nicole Kidman to play The Golden Compass' Mrs. Coulter, as good as she was, I'd have loved to see Rachel Weisz in that role. (Indeed, in the books, Mrs. Coulter is black-haired!) - Speaking of which, I've previously admitted my fondness for 27 Dresses, which features a strong performance from James "Cyclops" Marsden, but I think Ms. Weisz could have brought even more depth and fun to the part. - Someone on another board recently pointed out that the humans and arcade in Wreck-it-Ralph should've been live-action actors and film. - Adam Beach as Tonto. Duh. - And I hope that if they do bring back J. Jonah Jameson in the new Spider-Man series, they pull a Judi Dench in Casino Royale and bring back J.K. Simmons.
I see this as a chance to fix great lost opportunities of the past: Arsenic and Old Lace (1944) should have featured Boris Karloff, not Raymond Massey playing a Karloff lookalike. (Backstory: Karloff was too busy playing the part on stage to do the movie version, even though the whole joke is that the character is a dead-ringer for Karloff.) Batman (1966) should've featured Julie Newmar as Catwoman, not Lee Meriwether. (Newmar was busy shooting another movie at time.) Even as a kid, it bugged me that the movie didn't have the "real" Catwoman . . . . West Side Story (1961) should've featured Elvis as Tony, who would have been a lot more memorable than whoever it was who actually played the part (whose name I can't be bothered to look up). Oh, one more: Let's put Sean Connery in On Her Majesty's Secret Service instead of Lazenby, just because it's a crying shame that we never got Connery and Diana Rigg together in a Bond movie!
I still weep for the missed opportunity of The Wild, Wild, West starring George Clooney and Kevin Spacey - and no giant mechanical spiders!
I think he would have been at least distracting and probably less believable. My takes The Shining-Shelley Duvall did fine but I'd prefer Mia Farrow. Dangerous Liaisons-Alan Rickman or possibly Colin Firth as Valmont. Harry Potter-Ian Holm as Moody or Slughorn (though Broadbent did fine as the latter) and John Hurt as Voldemort (though he may have been too old). Watchmen-Not a big Brad Pitt fan but he'd probably be better as Ozymandias than weak link Matthew Goode.
The Spy Who Loved Me James Bond - Timothy Dalton Anya Amasova - Mary Tamm (RIP) Karl Stromberg - Peter Cushing (RIP) Jaws - Carel Struycken Naomi - Sarah Douglas General Golgol - Richard Marner (RIP) M - Arthur Lowe (RIP) Q - Clive Dunn (RIP) Raiders of the Lost Ark Dr. Henry Jones - Tom Selleck Marion Ravenwood - Alice Krige Dr. Rene Belloq - Louis Jourdan Sturmbannfuher Arnold Toht - Christopher Lloyd Sallah - Omar Sharif Dr. Marcus Brody - Alec Guiness (RIP) Oberst Dietrich - Rutger Hauer
This thread reminds me of a blog post I saw months ago. http://thegreatandterrible.wordpress.com/2012/01/31/reimagined-movie-posters/
Even if that were possible, hell no. Ruffalo's a fine actor, arguably just as good as Norton, but Norton's inherently haunted look made him perfect for that movie. I admit that, seeing as everyone else in Avengers gave very intense performances (albeit in different flavors of intensity), adding Norton and his haunted style of intensity might have been a bit much, but I can't imagine The Incredible Hulk being anywhere near as good with Ruffalo.
But at least he would have been better than Richard Beymer, who is undoubtedly the weak link in movie's cast. According to Wikipedia, other actors who auditioned for the part of "Tony" included Warren Beatty, Anthony Perkins, Richard Chamberlain, Burt Reynolds . . . and a young Anthony Hopkins. The mind boggles.
Could the change of appearance from Norton to Ruffalo between movies, be down to Robert Banner changing his human appearance while on the run? And weirder stuff has happened in the relatively recent series of Marvel movies.
