Alright guys, here's my latest offering; I had to get the look of the ship away from the Star Wars Fed Ship once and for and I think I've done that by sticking a big fat phaser lance in there. What do you think?
Ah well there's a classic case of not being to please all of the people all of the time. To be honest, the only reason that the design has evolved this far is purely due to peoples constructive criticism. Whilst I appreciate yours, I can only move forward with this project now, not backwards. In the spirit of that statement, here's todays progress... I'll try to post some more if I can render them in time.
I LOVE this design! It seems more clever than the design of the Dreadnought Class in ST-ID. It makes more use of cool shapes rather than bumps and greebles. It has a level of detail without going overboard on the shapes of the hull. I also like the addition of the lance; it gives a reason for the saucer ring to be there, like a power concentrator ring or something like that. As some more constructive criticism, I might suggest making the saucer more polygonal, to match the style of the rest of the ship. As a tangential experiment, I may try getting rid of the saucer altogether, a flat, rectangular projection on either size of the lance, or something wildly different. In fact, I may just have to do that!
Okey, so I've decided to release two versions of the ship. This one does not have the phaser lance or third nacelle. I have also replaced the central bridge core with something a little more robust looking. All in all, I think the ship looks a bit more simple and graceful.
Thanks guys, I appreciate that. I don't know why releasing two versions didn't occur to me earlier to be honest.
I've done quite a few variations of this design and overall, I prefer this one - with no supergun but with that third nacelle.
Lol, I was actually thinking something along the lines of the USS Inferno but Brutal Beast will do! Here's more renders I did last night;
This is something I've been working on for the last day or two. My Federation Dreadnought giving the poor old USS Enterprise a bit of a hammering in a nebula. Star Trek Into Darkness production designer Scott Chambliss did a piece of concept art for the USS Vengeance that directly inspired this piece. Many thanks go to Xhable for the use of his very fine USS Enterprise.
