I'd never heard of Bill Bailey before a few minutes ago, but near as I can figure he's this generation's Victor Borge -- a classical musician who inserts comedy and humor into his shows. Here he is with the BBC Orchestra, apparently during some TV special, doing a version of the Doctor Who Theme that has to be seen to be believed. And even if you go "oh, OK he's just doing THAT, ho-hum," stick with it - it's pretty funny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsxt0xxNrdM I think this might be the Royal Albert Hall, where the Proms concert was held, too... It might be more the other way around. A comic who puts music into his shows. He's great. He's in Spaced, in Hot Fuzz--dual roll! Edited to add: Oh, shit, I totally forgot, he's in Black Books. An AMAZINGLY funny show.
I've seen him live before, very funny guy. Personally my favourite version of the theme is the Late Baker/early Davison era theme (and the accompanying titles). In the new series I'd have to say the second version of the theme (was it from season 2 or 3?) was my favourite.
That video is awesome. I can't decide if I like the Tennant/series 4 version or the Smith/series 5&6 version most. Either or are the best, imho.
I prefer the series 4 version myself. Someone has edited all the titles in sequence. Prepare for Who Theme overdose! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6J_3rsEwYVE
That's a pretty cool version! Would prefer a version without the speaking bits. Best version of the theme is the 2005 (Eccelston) one. Retains enough of the classic version with some symphonic "oomph" added in.
He said "because I am Doctor Who" For shame Anyway, that was cute. The original version is the best, imo, if we're going down that route.
I've seen him do that before. [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4ruurkdNg0[/yt] The addition of the BBC Orchestra was a nice touch.
I think, of all of those, I like the Eccleston one the best. The violins appeal to me more, for some reason.
There's always this version: [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDuORTbSRXM&feature=youtube_gdata_player[/yt] Other than that, the 2005 version is great.
Doctor Qui is a classic, but the first two minutes of this sketch is one of my favourite Who-related comedy sketches because it's just so spot on. He describes Part 1 of your average Terry Nation Dalek story with perfect accuracy!
I just the music cues at the beginning. I realize the Dalek part of that bit doesn't apply, but the rest is just as valid.
