Excluding ships, if you could bring one of any Star Trek tech to this world what would it be? I was going to go with a dermal regenerator due to the fact that I stub a toe at least once a month, but I'll go with a universal translator.
Universal Translators - If I listen to a rap song would I hear "For shizzle" or "For sure"?
Transporters, easily. No more traffic jams or drunk drivers; no more hijacked airplanes; no more cruise ships run aground. And a lot less pollution.
A replicator can replicate a universal translator. A replicator can replicate all the parts for a transporter. And it can replicate the assembly instructions like a Lego booklet. Or Ikea (although this will leave you with several pieces left over - "What did they give us two pattern buffers for?"). Therefore replicator is still the best choice. :P
That would imply, that all existing Trek technology is programmed into the replicator as you bring it into this world. The purpose of this thread, as I understand it, is to choose a single technology. Thus if you decide to go with replicators, they should be "blank" and only be able to replicate what you can program into it. Otherwise it´d be like "if I had a wish, I´d wish for ten more wishes". And that´d be terribly boring
A cloaking device for the car would be mischievous. Personally I wouldn't want to give earth warp technology. I don't think we're ready to use it wisely.
If we "waited to use it wisely" for every technology that came along we'd still be waiting to use clubs and skins.
Yes, with a replicator you basically wouldn't need money anymore. It's kind of like Mr. Fusion. I'm sure it need some basic inputs, but pretty much anything will do.
Better yet, I'll go with a holodeck. It has replicator tech within it, plus I would love to watch star trek from within or play an xbox game in there.
Hey hey hey, I choose to interpret it as I can go into the Star Trek world and pick up something and bring it back. Nothing was said about wiping any memory banks or anything. So stop ruining my fun!
I'd go with the holodeck as well. And the first thing I'd do with it is watch Ship in a Bottle interactively
