Thanks to my 40-cent per gallon discount a couple of days ago... $3.30 per gallon. I remember when that was highway robbery and "OMG TEH ECONOMY!"
For the past few months, regular (87-octane) gas has been hovering around $4.00/gallon in my not-quite-fashionable neck of the woods. Fuel cells generate power for electric vehicles. Electric vehicle = no stick shift. Feh.
Just about $8/gallon here for diesel. Having said that, the car does 50-60mpg combined and I don't drive to commute.
No worries. As I understand it, European cars are more fuel efficient. With my new Ford Fiesta I can easily get 19 km/litre (45 miles/US gallon). Also, usually I don't use my car for my commute, so it's not a big deal.
I think part of that is down to European regulations on emissions as well as the ludicrous petrol/diesel prices with have to pay in Europe. These days how many miles/km it will do per litre/gallon can be a selling point.
