^ Well, since you mention... http://www.aintitcool.com/node/54120 Is it just me or is there a touch of Jack Sparrow about Tonto's garb? TLR himself is wearing a darker outfit than traditional.
I think Depp can't wear anything elaborate without it being compared to some degree to Jack Sparrow anymore, but I do like the different approach from the TV series they're taking with both Tonto and the Ranger (he actually looks like a legendary Texas Ranger, IMO).
The Jack Sparrow comparison all comes down to the nearly identical head band. Bet it changes before filming begins.
Both look good, although I was kinda hoping they'd keep the same look as the TV show. There was just something so cool and unique about the Ranger's light blue outfit, where this just looks like a generic western costume.
Nah, this is a generic western costume (from the 2003 TV movie): http://images.wikia.com/loneranger/images/c/c5/LR_Tonto_2003.jpg
I fell off my chair laughing at that photo. If this movie is a comedy, they're on the right track. Ugh, so boring! Even if the Depp approach is wacky, at least it holds my attention and provides entertainment value, to put it mildly. I also like the Lone Ranger costume. It's obviously not intended to be as garish as Tonto - we all know who the real star of this movie is - but it's got style and coordinates well with Tonto's costume, both being black & white.
It seems like Depp's costume is inspired by something like this (found the link in another forum): http://www.aiancoac.com/news/native-american-indian-art/ I'm really looking forward to this film. A new western is always welcome and Verbinski seems like a great fit for it (apart from Rango, there were also some great sequence in the Pirates trilogy that were definitely inspired by westerns).
Given that Tonto's outfit is so over the top and Lone Ranger is wearing a badge, I'm guessing that scene is representing some kind of "special occasion" in the story. A ceremony, a funeral, something like that. They probably won't look like that while duking it out with the bad guys.
Yeah, something like that. I'd be happy if they made a bigger deal out of the murdered Rangers than than past versions have.
He refused to belt out a HI-YO SILVER!!!??? suspicious! And he doesn't kiss Tonto? Well there goes that fantasy... But I'll stick my neck out even at this early date, this movie is going to be a BIG HIT! Disney never fear, you'll make all that John Carter money back and then some. PS, anyone know whether they've kept the rumored supernatural elements in the script - werewolves, wasn't it?
A look at the city set they build for this film: http://www.tmz.com/2012/03/09/lone-ranger-set-johnny-depp-armie-hammer/
