Congratulations to Sydney-based science fiction writer, Edwina Harvey, for her newly-released short story collection, "The Back of the Back of Beyond". Andorian Ambassador Therin and his alter ego (ie. me) make guest appearances in the story "Get Me to the Worldcon on Time", and my dog, Jack, gets a meaty cameos in "Party with My Sweet 286". Available through peggybrightbooks.com - eBook formats for now, but I have a paperback version coming. Thanks so much Edwina, it looks like wonderful fun and I'm in great cameo company by the look of the honour roll at the back!
At the risk of doing three posts in a row, time is running out for Dayton Ward's "Peaceable Kingdoms" sighting contest. Three more prizes of ten still available: http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=233492 http://daytonward.wordpress.com/2013/12/21/the-hunt-for-peaceable-kingdoms-begins/
I found the book of essays, "Fan Phenomena: Star Trek" (Intellect Books, 2013), edited by Bruce E Drushel, tonight. In the same series was "Fan Phenomena: Batman", edited by Liam Burke. Other books in this series include "Doctor Who" (in stock), "Twin Peaks", "Star Wars" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer".
^^ Re: Fan Phenomena: Star Trek: I reviewed that one a few months back. It's an interesting collection. (http://treklit.blogspot.com/2013/09/fpst.html)
I just pre-ordered the 2015 Ships of the Line calendar from Amazon. Anyone know which artists/designers are involved for this edition?
I just won a free design-it-yourself T-shirt! I decided to make it Trek publications-related: Therin Park T-shirt by Therin of Andor, on Flickr
I'm not sure exactly when in 2013 this came out, but the omnibus of "Kevin Keller: Drive Me Crazy", featuring the George Takei guest appearance in issue #6 ("By George!" by Dan Parent) of this "Archie" spin-off, was available in a local comic store this week: Kevin Keller omnibus by Therin of Andor, on Flickr George Takei supplies an introduction. There are also three more non-George stories and bonus features. The alternate covers (below) for the individual issues are included in the omnibus: Kevin Keller #6 by Therin of Andor, on Flickr
Landing party by Therin of Andor, on Flickr "Captain, the tricorder identifies the alien as a sitting duck." "No Time Like the Past" by Greg Cox arrived Down Under on Tuesday! I collected my copy tonight from Galaxy Bookshop, Sydney.
Deep foliage? Or drunk. In Australia, a drunk person is often described as "legless". (Which causes some interesting comments about Legolas, too. The "party elf".) This is the latest in the series of Diamond Select money boxes.
Spock's legs? Judging by the bloated yet satisfied expression on the duck's face, I imagine possibly it's eaten them. This might fit with the perturbed, slightly pained (meaning deep agony, because this is Spock), yet scientifically curious expression on Spock's face. And the tense, ready-for-action stance of the Andorian (Therin?), who is clearly reaching for his phaser. "A strictly carnivorous duck. Fascinating..." Then again, if I recall correctly, this duck was raised in a factory by alligators, yes? I imagine it's picked up some unusual habits.
Tonight, Galaxy in Sydney had the companion book/box for the Running Press "Light-up Phaser". This one is a light-up "Starship Enterprise" and features a model of the TOS ship on a stand, plus a miniature 32-page illustrated book by Chip Carter. It even references TAS's Robert April! I got my story anthology Star Trek SCE Things Past I can't wait to read this series of stories. I really liked Sce Out of the Cocoon stories.
Lee Cole's awesome Star Trek TMP sticker book. The amount of thought that went into these background details is amazing. (I'd love something similar for Into Darkness, after seeing all the Starfleet stickers they plastered over the NIF target chamber building to help transform it into the Enterprise's warp core on the BR extras... one can dream...)
