    Hey Guys,

I know it's off topic, but I'm not sure who else I can ask. I've been working on a new avatar, but it's well over the 70KB board maximum, and I'm not quite sure how to go about optimizing it more than I already have.

Here's what I have so far. If you have any advice, or know of any programs I can use/buy to get this thing down, please let me know.

    Thanks in advance.

It's way too long. Cut it to about 3 seconds.

It's basic math... figure how much data goes into each frame, count the frames, and multiply the first by the second.

GIFs are generally palletized, and palletizing reduces the frame size... instead of requiring a full range of colors, you choose only the colors being used, and each pixel is identified not as an RGB value (or HSV or CYMK or whatever) but rather as a "menu pick" color. You can't get much simpler than that.

To reduce the size, you have to

    1) Reduce the number of colors in the pallet (but this won't help much),

    or

    2) reduce the resolution (thus reducing the number of pixels in each frame)

    or

    3) reduce the number of frames.

Remember... every pixel you draw, in every frame you draw, requires a color definition.

So... shorten it, shrink it, or both. That's all you can do.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll see what I can do about reducing the number of frames -- probably by excluding portions of the scene rather than making it appear too choppy. I'll also try to get creative with cropping -- maybe I'll shave off a bit by getting it to 100x100. I don't think there's much more color I can reduce however.

Heh. Thanks. I'll take some props for making the caps (which did take forever). But the real credit goes to the artists that drew the latest He-Man series, which began airing in 2002. Here's the pilot on Youtube if you're interested.
