Re: STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - Grading & Discussion [SPOILERS]
If you really think "angry fanboys" account for a sixty million dollar drop in domestic revenue, I've got some stock in a wormhole I'd like to sell you. I'd wager even the "angriest" of the fanboys still hate-watched STID multiple times.
It could be that Into Darkness
had a bit more in the way of competition for theater dollars than Star Trek 2009
? Opening between Iron Man 3
and Fast and the Furious 6
. It could've been a bad marketing campaign? It could've been a mixture?
The ratings have continued to hold, it was well reviewed and it did very well on home video (disc, streaming) sales.
Domestic ticket sales did fall. But no one has convinced me that it had anything to do with the actual quality of the film.
