I blasted through The Martian
by Andy Weir
the other day, his debut novel. It tells the tale of a NASA astronaut who gets left behind on Mars after a botched mission abort, and subsequently has to Robinson Crusoe it as well as MacGyver himself out of the situation. I enjoy survival tales, Mars fiction and realistic depictions of spaceflight technology, so it was a blast to read. It's a real page-turner. The pitch is "Apollo 13 meets Castaway", and that's accurate.
