96. Rear Window (A-)
This was actually the first Hitchcock film I saw, probably about 10+ years ago, when I rented it from Blockbuster (ah, how the times change). I can appreciate it a lot more now, but I still maintain that as a thriller I don't find it especially effective (it works more as a character study and exercise in good technical filmmaking). The long shots of Kelly going through the house are well-executed, as is Stewart's waiting for Burr to appear, but once Burr comes into the apartment it gets kind of silly (repeatedly hitting him with flashbulbs, and Burr never thinking to just close his eyes when Stewart gets another one in, for instance). Stewart and Kelly are both terrific (and Kelly looks gorgeous).
