Indeed. Those who think episodes like "The Inner Light" are the apex of Trek are in the wrong place. You're never going to get that from a Trek movie, let alone one based on TOS.
I like Star Trek as action-adventure.
Indeed. It's how the show was conceived and how it works best.
To quote Picard from Encounter at Farpoint: "If we're going to be damned, let's be damned for what we really are."
The fandom has deliberated but decided that bitching and moaning is easier than altering one's expectations.
