Well, when it first aired in the States, The Prisoner
was on CBS. The Monkees
was on NBC. Unlikely CBS would have promoted another network's product.
And the Beatles were fans of The Prisoner
when it first aired in UK. Don't know if it was their suggestion or someone else's to include "All You Need Is Love", but they agreed to it nonetheless, which was unusual for any television to use a current song as part of its soundtrack at the time. Though I think the script originally indicated a traditional tune, like "Pop Goes the Weasel" or something.
