75. The Shining (A-)

I watched this on Halloween, thus knocking another Kubrick film off my watch list. I'd place this one in the upper echelon of the ones I've seen; partly because the conventions of making a horror film result in Kubrick at least identifying somewhat with some of the characters, if only in terror (although he clearly doesn't empathize with Jack Torrance, much to Stephen King's annoyance). It gets off to a bit of a slow start, but the final hour is pretty riveting, despite the fact that the major beats of this story are all very well-known.
