Something else I personally think would be cool is if there were an exchange in a new series that would go something like this:
"They're like the Furies, Captain? I don't see how they're similar to the figures from Greek myth."-a Lieutenant
"No. I'm talking about a group of aliens that first invaded back in Captain Kirk's time and later during Captain Picard's time. I'm surprised you've never heard of them before."-the Captain
No. That's horrible. It's an inorganic and awkward exposition dump. That is not how you do references.
"Who are you?! And how did you get in here?!"
"I'm the locksmith. And... I'm the locksmith."
